Entrance of Botanical Gardens, 1900s

The Gardens introduced the Para Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) plant, which brought about great prosperity to the Southeast Asian region with rubber trade during the early 20th century. It also became a powerhouse for orchid hybridisation research which put Singapore as one of the world’s leading orchids exporter.
